Civil engineering senior Alesa Stallman has won $1,500 from the International Concrete Repair Institute’s Georgia chapter.

It was one of two scholarships the chapter awarded to Georgia students earlier this month. Stallman said she was thrilled to accept the award, especially since it was the first time she had applied for a scholarship.

“I applied for the ICRI scholarship because, with such an emphasis on sustainability these days, concrete repair and restoration is just as important as high-quality new concrete work,” Stallman said. “Additionally, with proper care, the life of a concrete structure can be significantly prolonged and obviate the need for the demolition and rebuilding of structures.”

Stallman is wrapping up work on her bachelor’s degree and applying to the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering BS/MS program. She said she hopes to make a career in research and academia, where she can continue to learn and solve problems.

“I enjoyed getting to talk to ICRI members at the [awards] banquet,” Stallman said, “and I’m excited to start getting involved with that organization.”
