US News ranks graduate environmental engineering program No. 4 in the nation, civil engineering No. 5

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering’s graduate programs remain among the top five in the nation, according to 2016 rankings released March 10.

Environmental engineering graduate studies ranked No. 4 in the annual list from U.S. News and World Report. The civil engineering graduate program is No. 5. Those are the same as 2015.

"It is great to see that our programs in civil and environmental engineering
maintain their strong rankings as some of the very best programs in the
country," said Reginald DesRoches, Karen and John Huff School Chair. "This is a testament to the dedication, commitment, and outstanding
quality of faculty, staff, and students in our School."

U.S. News rates master’s and Ph.D. programs each spring (undergraduate program rankings come out in the fall). Civil engineering has maintained a spot in the top six programs going back to at least 2003. Environmental engineering has been climbing steadily in stature for the last decade.

CEE’s programs join every other engineering graduate program at Georgia Tech in the top 10 of their respective fields for the fourth straight year. Tech is the only university in the nation that can lay claim to such sustained excellence.

“We continue to be well-represented among the elite colleges of engineering in the country,” said Gary S. May, dean of the College of Engineering. “This recognition acknowledges the continued efforts made by our faculty to ensure our students receive the finest engineering education possible.”

Overall, U.S. News and World Report ranks the College sixth in the nation and second among public engineering schools.
