Assistant Professor Lauren Stewart has earned tenure at Georgia Tech and been promoted to associate professor, effective in August.

Meanwhile, Associate Professor and Dean of Professional Education Nelson Baker will become a full professor starting in the fall.

Both learned of their promotions this week.

Stewart is widely considered one of the nation’s foremost experts in blast engineering. She specializes in the study of mechanical shock and impact along with computational mechanics and has served as a senior blast consultant for a number of organizations over the last decade.

She has been identified by several national organizations as a rising star in engineering and earlier this year was named one of Georgia’s most-influential women in engineering. She joined the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering faculty five years ago and also oversees the School’s Structural Engineering and Materials Lab.

Baker has been a Tech faculty member for 30 years and dean of professional education for more than a decade. His civil engineering research focuses on using robotics and computer-based techniques to solve engineering problems. He’s also interested in intelligent learning environments for engineering. Baker also earned his civil engineering bachelor’s degree at Tech.
