A federally funded transportation research center has named School of Civil and Environmental Engineering master’s student Alana Wilson its Student of the Year and will send her to the nation’s signature transportation research meeting this winter.

The Center for Advancing Research in Transportation Emissions, Energy and Health picks one student from its partner institutions for the award each year. Wilson was the unanimous choice for 2017. She said the center’s work aligns closely to her own interests.

“The CARTEEH research center was created to foster collaborative research in the fields of transportation emissions, energy, and health, which has been the focus of my master's program,” said Wilson, a second-year M.S. student in environmental engineering.

Wilson has been working with Michael Rodgers on one of the center’s research projects on port operations and their effects on nearby residents. Rodgers leads Georgia Tech’s efforts related to the research center — one of six U.S. Department of Transportation University Transportation Centers in which the School’s researchers are partners.

As student of the year, Wilson will travel to the Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting in January, where she’ll represent the center at a meeting of all university transportation centers.
