Georgia Tech continues to provide an elite graduate education for civil and environmental engineers, according to new rankings released March 20.

U.S. News and World Report’s 2019 assessment of post-baccalaureate programs put Tech’s civil engineering master’s and Ph.D. programs at No. 2 in the country and the environmental degrees at No. 5.

“We’re thrilled and humbled that our graduate programs, and our talented graduate students, continue to be considered some of the very best in the country,” said Kimberly Kurtis, interim chair of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. “It’s a testament to the faculty, students and alumni whose hard work makes our communities safer, stronger, more resilient and more livable.”

At No. 5, the environmental engineering graduate program jumped two spots from last year’s rankings. This is the civil program’s second consecutive year at No. 2, its highest-ever spot on this list.

The rankings continue a remarkable run of more than two decades in the top 10 for the School, which is one the largest and most-diverse of its kind in the United States.

“Our School is a partnership and a community,” said Donald Webster, the just-announced new Karen and John Huff School Chair. “We thrive because we’re a vibrant mix of some of the most accomplished students in the world, a faculty of world-renowned engineers and scientist, the best staff on campus, and alumni who are reshaping the world and remain dedicated to helping us achieve our goals.

“I cannot wait to continue our work together as we build on this tradition of excellence.”

The School joins every other engineering discipline at Georgia Tech in the top 10 of their fields for the seventh year in a row. Overall, U.S. News ranked the College of Engineering eighth in the nation and fourth among public engineering schools.
